Since 1974, the staff and volunteers of the Humane Society of Walden have provided quality care for many companion pets while they wait for their forever homes.

The Humane Society of Walden is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping stray and abandoned cats and dogs. Our animal shelter serves the communities of Montgomery, Walden, Maybrook, Gardiner and Towns of Hamptonburgh, Wawarsing and Shawangunk, but will not turn away pets from across the country in need.

We are a no kill shelter, humanely euthanizing only those animals who are seriously ill or injured, or, who have demonstrated they are vicious and dangerous to others. Read More »

Our Board of Directors meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, at 7:00 pm. Meetings are held at the Walden Savings Bank at Scotts Corners. Read More »

Introducing a New Cat to Other Pets

Wouldn't it be nice if all it took to introduce a new cat to your resident pet were a brief handshake and a couple of "HELLO, My Name is.......

In 1999, a Rottweiler named Brutus was brought in to the shelter with very bad dysplasia at the age of 1 year. Through all the tests, his disposition remained sweet & lovable. The local newspaper did a story because the shelter could not afford to treat him, yet didn't have the heart to put him to sleep.

Thanks to that newspaper, the response from people was overwhelming and the Brutus Fund was formed. The fund has been used for all adoptable animals with various medical problems. Now, due to a large amount of animals needing medical care, the Brutus Fund is in trouble. We are treating 3 dogs with heart-worms and 1 with Lyme's disease, older cats who require dental care and kittens who need immune boosting treatment.

We desperately need donations to The Brutus Fund in order to continue the treatment of animals that others can no longer care for. Donations of any size are gratefully accepted.
