Welcome to the Humane Society of Walden, where compassion meets community service. We offer a rewarding opportunity for individuals seeking to complete their community service hours in a meaningful and impactful way. Whether you’re fulfilling court-based community service requirements or looking for student or organizational volunteering opportunities, we have a place for you!

How to Get Started:

  1. Contact Us: Complete our volunteer application to express your interest in completing community service hours at our animal shelter.
  2. Orientation: If you’d like to volunteer at our Walden location you must complete our online orientation. You will learn more about our shelter’s mission, policies, and the various volunteer opportunities available.
  3. Training: Depending on your interests and abilities, we will provide training.
  4. Track Your Hours: You are responsible for tracking your volunteers hours.  If you are using our Student Community Service Activity Book to fulfill your community service hours please use our hours log.

Student Community Service

Are you a student in need of service hours? Browse our Student Activity Book and choose a project or projects to complete for our animals. You can complete a maximum of 15 remote community service hours per year.

Upon completion, fill out an HSW Student Community Service Log and email contact@waldenhumane.org to schedule a time to drop off your donations at HSW. You must schedule and confirm a donation drop-off time in order to receive service hours. 

Just a caring student wanting to help out and don’t need the service hours? Feel free to drop off your donations during any open hours.

Corporarte Community Service

We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities that are well-suited for corporate groups and team-building experiences. These opportunities can be tailored based on your group size, interests, and availability.

Some of the ways your team can get involved include:

Onsite Support Days
Assist with general shelter needs such as organizing supplies, cleaning and preparing spaces, light maintenance, and enrichment projects for the animals in our care.

Dog Walking & Enrichment
Spend time with our adoptable dogs by helping with walks, playtime, and enrichment activities. This is a rewarding way to directly impact their well-being and adoptability.

Cat Socialization
Help our cats become more comfortable with people by spending time socializing, playing, and providing gentle interaction.

Special Projects
Corporate groups can assist with larger projects such as landscaping, painting, organizing donation areas, or creating enrichment items like toys and treat puzzles.

Offsite & Event Support
Join us at community events, adoption events, or fundraising initiatives where your team can help engage with the public and support our mission.

Kitten Season Support
During peak times, we may have opportunities to assist with kitten care, supply organization, or fostering support.

We are happy to work with you to create a volunteer experience that aligns with your team’s goals while making a meaningful difference for the animals we serve.

Court Mandated Community Service

We believe that by completing your court-ordered community service hours at our animal shelter, you can make a positive impact on the lives of animals in need while fulfilling your obligations. Please complete our volunteer application, and online orientation.
Please Note: Not all court ordered community service volunteers will be eligible to fulfill their hours with HSW.
