July was one for the record books at the Humane Society of Walden. We’re thrilled to announce 60 adoptions in a single month—our highest ever. Among those happy tails was Marisol, one of the Sidewalk Angels Foundation trio, who found her forever home before the month’s end. Her brother Rob followed just a day later on August 1st, but their sister Maria is still waiting for her perfect match. If you’re looking to adopt, Maria and many others are ready to meet you at waldenhumane.org/adopt. This incredible adoption milestone is even more meaningful considering we also had over 50 kittens in foster care throughout the month—each one on their own journey toward a second chance.
Kitten Season in Full Swing
While we celebrated these incredible adoptions, we also had over 50 kittens in foster care throughout July. Our foster families continue to be the unsung heroes of HSW, giving these little ones the love and care they need to grow strong and social before finding forever homes.
We’re Growing—And We Need Your Help
Last year, we celebrated 50 years of lifesaving work, community support, and deep connections. As we step into our 51st year, we’re launching something big: The HSW Capital Campaign—a two-year plan to renovate and modernize our shelter to meet growing needs and comply with the new NYS Shelter Standards Law.
Here’s why this matters:
- Our current facility is outdated and stretched beyond capacity.
- We served over 500 animals in 2024 and continue to support multiple towns through municipal partnerships.
- Our programming has expanded far beyond adoptions—into humane education, pet food support, and advocacy.
Our first major project: a brand new furnace and HVAC system. After last winter pushed our old system to the brink, local HVAC hero Sean Murphy (Perfect Temperature) stepped in, restoring heat when we needed it most. Now, Sean is donating his time and labor to install a new unit. Thanks to early supporters, we’ve already raised $22,000 of the $40,000 goal for this phase.
- Our 1980s heating system is showing its age, and with each passing season, it’s become harder to keep it running safely and efficiently for the animals in our care.
- To protect our animals year-round, we urgently need a new HVAC system that can handle both the harsh winters and the rising summer heat.
But we’re not done yet. And we can’t do it without you.

Let’s keep the momentum going. Let’s do this—for the Maria’s still waiting, for the hundreds who’ll come through our doors next, and for the next 50 years of impact.
