September was a month full of wagging tails, purrs, and big steps forward for the Humane Society of Walden. From happy adoptions to lifesaving kitten rescues and exciting progress in our Capital Campaign, here’s a look at what’s been happening—and what’s just around the corner.
34 Animals Found Their Forever Homes
Nothing brings us more joy than watching our residents head home. In September, 34 animals were adopted into loving families. Every adoption represents a new beginning and makes space for us to help the next animal in need.

Tiny But Mighty: Stray Kittens Find Safety at HSW

Meet our newest comedians – Larry, Curly, and Moe. This adorable 2-month-old trio is heading into foster for a few weeks, but not before receiving the full HSW welcome: ✔️ Weight check ✔️ Physical exam ✔️ Distemper + Revolution ✔️ Nail trim.
It’s been a busy season for our team and volunteers, with kittens arriving in need almost every week. Many of these little ones came to us from Newburgh and surrounding communities—dirty, hungry, flea-covered, and far too young to be on their own.
Here’s what their journey looks like once they arrive:
- Immediate care: flea treatments, exams, nail trims, vaccinations, and sometimes much-needed warm “spa baths.”
- Bottle feedings & cozy rest: the smallest kittens rely on round-the-clock bottle feeding, heating discs, and plenty of love.
- Foster families: once stable, kittens move to foster homes until they’re old enough (three pounds or three months) for spay/neuter surgery and rabies vaccines.
Fosters truly make this work possible. Without them, we couldn’t save nearly as many kittens as we do. Supplies are also critical—kitten food, formula, blankets, and toys are always in demand.

Capital Campaign: Chapter 1 Complete!
Big news—Chapter 1 of our Capital Campaign is officially complete! Thanks to the support of our community (and a joyful leap of approval from Honey the dog), we’ve secured upgrades that will keep our animals and people cozy through every season.

Honey couldn’t contain her joy and jumped in with Sean, owner and President of Perfect Temperature in Montgomery, NY.
Up Next: Chapter 2
Now, we’re turning the page to Chapter 2, with a $3,000 goal focused on creating a safe recovery space for pups who are sick, injured, or just settling in. Planned upgrades include:
- A new ventilation fan
- Epoxy floors
- Bright, updated lighting
- Fresh paint, caulking, and a screened window
This space will help dogs heal in comfort and safety—something every animal deserves. Stay tuned for more details on how you can support this next step.
